Potatoes peas and corn that came from space will now be planted on Earth

After keeping in space for several months, scientists have sent many types of seeds back to the earth. According to a report, the seeds will be planted on the earth at the beginning of this spring. It is a part of the Cultural and Stam Study. The full name of Stem here is Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. According to a Spacedotcom report, in November last year, five types of seeds- Sweat Potato, Peas, Makka and Lambsquarters were sent to the International Space Station (ISS).

All seeds weighing one pound (500 grams). They were kept in exposure to microgravity (microscopic gravity) and space radiation in the space for 5 months. In April this year, these seeds returned to the earth. The name of the project is Chockctaw Heirloom Seeds Investigation. Its purpose is to encourage American youth to make a career in Stem.

According to the report, students of Jones Academy Boarding School in Oklahama, USA will plant these seeds in their school gardens. Students have been asked to predict the growth of these seeds.

What is the International Space Station?

It is present in a low-end orbit ie the lower orbit of the earth, 400 km above the earth. In this, a team of Astronauts from the US, Russia and their allied countries is always deployed and completes the experiments related to the space. The International Space Station revolves around the Earth at a speed of about 7.6 km per second. During this time it dodges the earth 16 times in 24 hours.

The ISS currently has a team of crew-9 mission. This team will return to Earth in February March next year. It will then include astronaut Sunita Williams and Butch Willmore.

However, it will be interesting to see how the seeds that come in the space can grow on the earth.
